Frequently Asked Questions

  • When Should You Replace Your Door?

Knowing when to replace your door is crucial for maintaining the security, energy efficiency, and aesthetics of your home. Over time, doors can show signs of wear and tear that compromise their functionality and appearance.

If you notice any of the following issues, it might be time to consider a door replacement:

    • Visible Damage: Cracks, dents, or warping in your door can affect its structural integrity and appearance. Damage not only reduces curb appeal but can also lead to further deterioration.
    • Difficulty Operating: If your door is hard to open, close, or lock, it may be due to alignment issues or structural problems. This can pose a security risk and indicate that the door frame or door itself is compromised.
    • Drafts and Poor Insulation: Feeling drafts around your door or noticing an increase in your energy bills could mean your door is not sealing properly. Replacing it with a more energy-efficient model can help improve insulation and reduce energy costs.
    • Water Damage: Signs of water damage, such as swelling, peeling paint, or mold, suggest that moisture is getting inside your door. This can lead to further structural issues and health concerns.
    • Outdated Design: An old or outdated door can detract from your home's overall aesthetic. Upgrading to a modern design can enhance your home’s exterior and increase its value.
    • Security Concerns: If your door is no longer providing the level of security you need, such as having a compromised lock system or being easily breakable, it’s time for an upgrade to a more secure model.
    • Noise Issues: If external noise is easily heard through the door, it may lack proper insulation. A new door with better soundproofing features can create a quieter indoor environment.

By addressing these issues promptly, you can ensure your home remains secure, comfortable, and visually appealing.

  • How do you measure a door’s size?

Measuring a door is pretty straightforward. Simply measure the width and the height of the space inside the door frame (do not include any of the frame itself). Also measure the thickness of your door for the full dimensions. Generally, you will want to replace your door with a door of the same thickness, but this can sometimes be changed should you desire it.

  • What is a standard door size?

“Standard” is somewhat of a subjective term when it comes to doors. The most common door size is 80 inches tall and 36 inches wide, but doors can often vary based on needs and requirements. Exterior doors are typically thicker for added security and protection, but will typically run roughly the same size. Of course, double doors, French doors, and sliding doors may have different dimensions depending on the size of the opening.
